Letter from Makall

April 24, 2014

Hi Family!

Well my email was really short today so I decided I would write you a letter. Um on Sunday we had the Easter devotional where President Uchtdorf came and talked to us. He talked about Peter and how after Christ’s resurrection he had a change of heart and became the best missionary he could be. That this process has to happen in all of our lives and missions. He talked a lot about having courage to open our mouths which is something I need  a lot of . His talk was awesome! So that was the huge sacrament meeting with everyone. Then after we got lost trying to help a girl in out district find something.  So we live on the west campus which is farther away from the temple and the “main MTC”. Only Spanish missionaries are here so it is nice because we all speak the same language so we use it a lot more. But anyway after sacrament we went to lunch on the west campus (our cafeteria is smaller , not as many options  which is probably a good thing). But president Uchtdorf came in the cafeteria and started shaking hands!!! That was actually the second time I shook his hand because I met him at SOTW when he came with his family. But that was really cool.

That night we had another devotional from Richard I Heaton who is in charge of something at the MTC. He talked about how to convert someone who had no knowledge of Christ. He brought an Elder out of the audience who is from Hong Kong and speaks Cantonese and Cambodian. He is going to Canada on his mission. He just shared his experience and conversion! It was awesome.

On Tuesday night Elder Oaks and his wife spoke. They gave an amazing talk about how to be a good missionary. One thing he said was “Remember this time is Heavenly Fathers not ours so we cannot waste a minute!” this made me think that I have to be busy every minute constantly trying to learn. So I made some flash cards with my Spanish words and take them to the gym so I can study there also. I can not waste a minute of my time here. I have to do what the Lord needs me to do!

I loved emailing everyone today and got a few letters from people! So tell Jordan thanks for the Dear Elder! Also Mom your Dear Elder Letter for Jenna came to me… so I’m not sure if I have her address.

Anyway I know this is hard but it is where I need to be . Hopefully the language will come! Um…. I think that’s all… I love seeing the pictures of the kids today! They all look so cute they all look so cute! Oh mom you said you sent stamps in the box but they weren’t there.

Oh tonight in class we were practicing bearing our testimony of Joseph Smith and the first vision. One Hermana read the verse in the JSH in Spanish and we all just started crying. It’s crazy how even the Spanish the spirit can touch your heart! I really had my own witness that that really happened! It was amazing! Well I think those are m highlights. Oh P.S. Dad the investigators are fake they are teachers/members so they are just for practice but it feels really real! We taught our first discussion 5 lessons and in the fourth one she committed to baptism seriously my companion and I were so happy!  We were almost crying! It feels so good and it really helps us understand what it will be like. It was so sweet “ we eventually will have 5 r 6 at a time! So that should be fun. It is hard in Spanish but it’s coming. I know if I do my part the Lord will help me.

Love Makall

P.S. Don’t forget to send my life flight sweatshirt or one of dads. … Some t-shirts, Yoga pants, socks, stamps… I think that is all. Also my blue dress that is my favorite  or Mom’s favorite, I guess s to short  I think it shrunk so I’m to going to send it home and maybe you can fix it….The one from white elegance. Well that’s all!

Well that’s All
Love you all!
Miss you tons!!

1st week in the MTC

Hi family (:
I am alive and well!!! Today is PDay and it has been nice to have a break from studying.  The MTC is really hard but i love it here.I love getting your letters and packages! reallly it is the best thing. I know i said i didn't think i would need a lot of letters but i love that feeling when we open the mail box and there is something for you in it! On sunday President Uchtdorf was here for easter and Dallen H Oaks was here on tuesday for devotional.  That was really cool to have them talk to us! Our teachers only speak spanish all the time so my spanish is getting better but slowly.  My companion is basically fluent to she is always speaking in spanish and i love that but i feel like i totally don't know what she is saying most the time. I have only have one break down in the MTC so that's good (: I really do love being here!!!   Well i will be on for an hour if you guys want to talk or something (: love you!!!  <3 Makall

On sunday night i just got a little overwhelmed for like 5 minutes and cried a little but nothing big (: it is really hard but i just have to remember that this is not for me or about me you know.  That i am doing this because heavenly father needs me here.  The language barrier is just really hard especially when we are teaching lessons.  i know what i want to say but cant so i just have to say what i can but i know if i study as much as i can then heavenly father will help with the rest.

It is getting better (: she is just like fluent in spanish you know so sometimes when we are teaching i don't really say much.  But we had a companionship inventory, which is where we just talk about our strengths and weaknesses and we worked it out.  So it is getting better.  She also just talks ALOT..... but she is really nice and is here for the right reasons....

Um the hives on my hands are still there... I put cream on them and take a benydryl every night so i read they wont go away until the stress in your life is gone..... so maybe not until after the mission haha (:

Makall is alive and well, Loving the MTC

Here is Makall's 1st letter home, yes short and sweet!

April 17, 2013 (yes she did get the year wrong:)

Querdo Mamam y Papa I am alive and well! I have had the most amazing few days here at the CCM (MTC in Espanol) :) My companion is Hermana Haggard. She is so amazing! She is basically fluent in Espanol so I am very blessed. I told her everything she says in Espanol she has to repeat in English so I will pick it up quickly. She is so sweet and is from Fargo North Dakoda. We got along since the minute we met.

Well we have been SO busy already . The Lords work is alive and well. We started class the minute we got here and learned to pray and bear a simple testimony in Esanol. My Espanole es muy horrible but the gift of tongues is so real!! It’s crazy how much I understand, I just need to be more comfortable opening my mouth more. We are teaching our 1st “investigator” in Espanol Tomorrow, It will be hard but so rewarding! I am actually starting to think in Espanole already! Only a bit but it is coming! We have 6 hermana’s in our room with 1 bano…..It’s a little hard but they are all so amazing. I know this is where I am supposed to be! I have not cried once . So be proud. I just love it here! It is so hard and the days feel so long, a little overwhelming but I know the Lord will be with me every step of the way!

I guess I will share my simple testimony en Espanol with you:

Yo sé que Jesucristo es el Salvador y la expiación es un don poderoso. Yo sé que la iglesia es verdadera. Yo sé que Jesucristo es el Redentory el es amoroso. Este testimonio me ayuda a vivir feliz y superar desafios y tener espernza. Yo sé que mi Padre Celestial me ama. Esta es mi testimonio pequeno. En el nombre de Jesucristo, Amén. I love youand miss you but I am alive and well, and working very hard!! Tu amor!!! Amor, Hermana Chatwin

Here is the translation of her testimony thanks to Jim:

I know that Jesus Christ is the Savior and the Atonement is a powerful gift. I know the Church is true. I know that Jesus Christ is the Redeemer and he is loving. This testimony helps me to live happy and to overcome challenges and to have faith. I know that my heavenly father loves me. This is my small testimony. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
